New Covid Shots?

On Monday, September 18, 2023, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized a fresh batch of new COVID shots. The Omicron variety, which is presently the most prevalent strain of COVID-19 circulating in the United States, is the focus of the new boosters.

 

COVID-19 Shots Details

The FDA gave the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines new approval. Both new boosters are now bivalent, which means that they work against both the original strain and the Omicron version of the virus.

Based on results from clinical trials demonstrating the vaccines were both safe and effective at increasing immune responses against the Omicron variety, the FDA decided to approve the novel boosters. The clinical trials also revealed that the vaccines were well accepted, with most adverse effects being minor and disappearing on their own after a few days.

Anyone 12 years of age and older who has finished their initial vaccination series with any COVID-19 vaccine that has received FDA authorization or approval is eligible for the new boosters. If it has been at least two months since the last time a person received a booster dose, they are also qualified to receive the current booster.

The boosters are only available with a doctor’s or other healthcare provider’s prescription. The new boosters are free and most insurance companies will pay for them.

One shot of the boosters is given into each arm. The majority of the boosters’ adverse effects are minor and disappear on their own in a few days. Along with weariness, headache, muscular pains, and chills, these side effects can also include discomfort, redness, and swelling at the injection site.
